Advances in technology have seen an increasing number of electrical and electronic devices being used in agricultural and forestry tractors and machinery. As in other areas of EMC, this has resulted in an increasing need for awareness of the operating environment of these products.
The automotive directive, 2004/104/EC, does not cover Agricultural and Forestry tractors and machinery. Instead the immunity requirements for this type of product are covered by the EMC Directive 89/336/EEC and the emissions requirements are covered by Directive 75/322/EEC. Subsequently, in contrast with 2004/104/EC, agricultural and forestry machinery is additionally subject to ESD testing and conducted transient testing. The justification for this is that in this environment, machinery and vehicles are not always self contained, but can be part of an overall system.
